Discharge from eyes

Hi Doc,

My daugther is 2yrs and 8 months and has recently been placed in a creche - it is her 3rd week there. I have noticed the past two days that she has a discharge from her eyes and when she wakes up, the discharge is green and some part has harden during the night, what can I use or should I take her to the doctor?

This is an eye infection called conjunctivitis. The ideal thing would be for a doctor to see her and take a swab to find out what bacteria is causing this infection. The correct antibiotic eye ointment or drops can then be prescribed.
