Dimple Lower Back

Hi Dr
My baby was born with a dimple on his lower back, actually it is right were his bottom starts which I assume is the base of his spine. The dimple is shallow and covered in dark hair. If I look closely it looks like there is a tiny scar in the centre. My paediatrician told me it is nothing serious and not too worry but he would like to do a scan or xray when he is a little older as a precaution. He said that in very rare instances a dimple of this sort is an indication that there is a problem with the spine. I can''t help but to worry and I have been looking on the net for information and it seems my baby has a Sacral Dimple which is a form of Spina Bifida? Should I push my paed to do scans earlier -he said we can do it after his six month check-up as he was not concerned that there could be a problem but as a mother I am a little stressed as I have been reading ''horror stories'' all over the net. My baby is now seven weeks and doing well in all aspects. I feel he is strong, has excellent head control, is able to push his torso up slightly and move himself from side to side while on his tummy. His legs are strong too and if he kicks against something he is able to push himself away etc. He is also very responsive and a very happy baby. He is growing well too, his weight is 4.2Kgs (birth weight - 3.2Kgs). I am just concerned now that this dimple could possibly be an indication of something serious even though my paed has assured me it is nothing to be concerned about? In your opinion could there be any cause for concern?
