Q.

DIET FOR VEGETARIAN BABY - PLS HELP!

My seven month old girl is a vegetarian (no meat, fish or eggs)therefore we are concerned about maintaining a balanced diet i.e. B12 & iron. Are there any supplements for toddler to compensate for a vegetarin diet??? She has a lot of fruit and veg which is mainly purity and we are not sure is she is "getting it all". When can salt be introduced to her home-made meals?

Also we would like to know what is the ideal feeding schedule for a 7 month old???....we are not sure if we are over feeding her (or not feeding enough!). She has a breakfast of cereal followed with 150ml milk at 8am. Lunch (1:00pm) is a jar of purity followed with 150ml milk amd then supper at 6:30pm with a jar of purity and milk before bedtime (9pm). She takes about an hour to have her lunch and supper with alot of persitance thus we feeling that maybe she is not
really hungry.

Kindly advise!!!

The healthiest diet for any child is a well-balanced diet that contains lots of fruit and vegetables. My advice would have been to reconsider raising your child as an exclusive vegetarian. This is a choice she can make for herself herself when she is older. There are no specific dietary rules and the main guideline at this age would be to give solids 2-3 times per day as tolerated, and to ensure that she continues to gain weight and grow as expected. You may also ask your clinic for advice on amounts and frequency or our online dietician for more detailed dietary advice.

Have you tried using one of Mary Anne Shearer's books - the Natural Way? I think she has one on feeding children.
