Your baby has a viral illness probably caused by the RS virus. He has a cold and also a chest infection called bronchiolitis. As this is a viral illness antibiotics do no help at all and may cause side effects. You need to replace the 'good' bacteria which have been cleared from your baby's gasto-intestinal tract by the antibiotics, so give him Reuteri drops 5 drops daily for 10 days. Keep up the Creche Guard. Keep your baby's nose clear with Salex nose drops twice a day and if he has lots of mucous in his nose then suck this out with a Nosefrida device [speak to your pharmacist] Your baby will take at least 14 days to get better. He has had a bad start to going to the creche.

Hi Beh,

I think the best thing is to keep his nasal passages clear with nose drops, try Salex or Chamiflor. I personally like Chamiflor as it sprays into the nostrils. Some cough mixtures dry up the mucous and not loosen it to get it out, so I don''t think they are good for babies. My Paed prescribed Mucospect for the mucous.

What is also good is to give them a probiotic for 10 days of each month, 5 drops a day. I use ProB2 Paed drops. I also use a Nebulizer on my 11 month old. I put 2ml Saline Solution and 2ml Duolin and do it for 5 minutes every day, until the mucous loosens up. I also use Creche Guard, even though my baby is not at creche.

I use a half tablet of ACC 200 in about 100ml of water, when the mucous is really bad and does not want to come loose.

Can your baby not stay at home, with the maid or granny, perhaps? I think his immune system is going to take a hammering and he will keep getting sick as other parents send their kids to school sick and then your baby will pick it up.

Good luck, hope you come right.
