Childhood Diseases

Dear Doc

My daughter of 27 months has always been at home, looked after by myself and my daughter''s grandparents. Although she is a fussy eater, she is In my opinion a healthy child.

Besides a bit of excema and the odd nunny nose, she has only needed to see her paediatrician twice in 27 months. At about 6 months the paediatrician prescribed Reuteri drops when she had diarhea, and then at about 23 months she had diarhea, vomited once and had a high fever, for which the paediatrician prescribed Moxypen and Ponston.

She communicates extremely well and is very advanced with her vocabulary. I am now contemplating letting her go to a creche for 4 hours a day to intereact with other children her age etc.

My concern is that she will now be exposed to lots of germs / viruses etc. Will the benefits of attending a day care facility outweigh the negatives of all the extra viruses etc? Really not sure what I should do!

Thank you.

It is hard to predict what will happen if your daughter is exposed to a creche environment now. She is a healthy well rounded little girl and is happy with you and her grandparents. It would certainly noT be a good idea to send her to a creche during the upcoming winter months as that would be asking for trouble.
