Q.

Crawling

Hi,

Just want to know at what age does baby start crawling?
My boy is almost 6months (I know it's still early) and he only started to sit on his own now, I do put him on his tummy and he then pull his knees up (bum in the air), is this a good sign?

Also, he went to the daycare on Monday (first time), it's a lady about 40years of age and she loves children, (did all the ref checks) she only takes 2 children at a time, and my boy is the first, the other baby is only starting in April. I'm really pleased, by the time the other baby (also a boy) joins, he will be settled and almost 9months.
But the thing is, I know I'm just stupid, but does he knows it's MOMMY when I come to pick him up. He is a very friendly boy, doesn't really cry. I was just wondering does he know I'm his mother...... (stupid I know... :-)

Children know their mother, but every minute spent with them is valuable to re-inforce this precious bond. Most children start to crawl by about 9 months of age.

Oh boy Norma, I know how you feel!! It is an awful feeling dropping them off, but that will soon pass and that smile when you pick them up, counts for a million stars!! They definitely know it is their mommy!!
My boy is now 7.5 months and still not crawling, however I am relaxed about this - I am sure he will start one of these days.
He sat at 5 months completely alone, so I am not too worried that he will not achieve the other milestones!

Enjoy that bundle!!

The average age to start crawling is from 9 to 12 months of age. Some babies crawl earlier and some later.

Putting your baby on his tummy as much as possible is excellent exercise. Try putting interesting toys in a semi circle just out of reach of baby when he's on his tummy.

A baby will always know mummy. What DM said about the breast and bottle babies is correct, but even a bottle fed baby will always know its mummy. They know your smell, they imprint your face in their memories from the moment they're born, they know what it feels like when you hold them.

The day care you have for your baby sounds excellent. I know its tough going back to work, but things do get better and you even get to the point where you appreciate having time in adult company.

Milestones do differ from child to child, My daughter is only 6 1/2 months and started crawling already. She started to sit by her own at 5 months. My sister's son is 8months and started walking, it's amazing. For your son pulling up his knees and bum, i can say its a good sign that he'll soon starts crawling.

Yes, most breastfeeding babies know their mother than bottlefeed ones, the reason is the botllefeed babies can be fed by anyone unlike the breastfeeding ones.

I'm sure it makes sense

Take care
