Cracked nipples from expressing

Hi there

I cann' ot breast feed my baby, she has a tongue tie and I have short nipples, we have tried to latch numerous times, unsucessfully.

I now express milk for her and feed her via bottle.

both nipples have a crack in each of them, my clinic said it was because I was expressing on my electric pump to high. I have now turned it down and it is less painful, but the cracks aren' t healing.

On Saturday I only expressed enough to relieve pressure to try give my nipples time to heal, but then on Monday there was hardly ANY milk. I have started Prolak and keep expressing and slowly my supply is increasing again.

I have tried the following creams (I have had the cracks for about 2 weeks now)

which hasnt helped, I am now trying kamillosan

Please help

You really seeem to be battling. As your baby is able to suck on a bottle why not start her on a good formula?Expressing your breast milk is causing you much pain and trouble with cracked nipples which don't get a chance to heal.

Best is to go for laser therapy of the nipples - it will take about 5 -7 visits at your physio. You can also spend some time under a red lamp, or sunbathing. Sorry, but I also found the creams/ointments of little value to solve cracked nipples. You can mix bepanthen and Lansinoh to keep the nipples supple though. Good luck!
