Cows Milk gives little girl cramps

Hello Professor,

My little girl is 19 months, and is on Nan 3 - I have tried a few times to change her to full cream cow' s milk, but it definitely gives her cramps. Every time I try, we are up half the night, and she is restless, and complains of a sore tummy!
It doesn' t seem to bother her as much if I give it to her in the morning.

My question is, why would that be? Is Nan 3 not cow milk based anyway?

She still has about 400ml milk per day in total, in addition to a fairly balanced diet (she is not a great eater).

Thank you for your time!

Good question. As NAN3 is indeed a cow' milk based formula it is odd that your little girl cannot tolerate full cream cow's milk. She is unlikely to be allergic to milk and also unlikely to have a lactose intolerance as she is symptom free on the NAN3. In spite of what I have just said here, your little girl's symptoms when she drinks cows milk do suggest that she may have a problem with lactose intolerance.Try her on a regular soya milk in cartons which you will find in most supermarkets. Let me know if she is unable to tolerate this type of milk.
