Could it be night terrors?

Hi Professor,

My little girl is 10.5 months old. She has never slept through really - but lately she has had longer stretches.
The problem seems to be within the first few hours of going to bed.
I usually try to get her to bed by 7pm! (She has always been in her own room, in her cot - with a dim light on).
Her first waking is generally by about 8pm, and she screams &  sobs until I let her breastfeed a bit! This then goes on every 1/2 hour to hour, until about 10pm, then she sleeps well for a good few hours!
The problem may also be that she doesn' t go to sleep easily on her own - normally while feeding! So possibly she is waking &  is scared because I am not with her??

Any suggestions / advice would be much appreciated!

Your baby may be having night rerrors, but there are a few other possibilities here. She may be teething or she may have a blocked nose. I presume that she is not feverish as an ear infection could also cause this kind of behaviour in a baby of this age.If she has a blocked nose all you need to use is Saline nose drops twice daily. If she is teething she will benefit from a little Calpol or Panado syrup if she seems to be in pain.
