my 2yr old son has been coughing for the past 2 weeks, it was a wet cough,now its becoming a dry cough, I''ve kept him out of creche for the week, but he is going today, cough is still there but a dry cough. I''ve been using adco linctopent,tussitots, the adco linctopent is finished, should i continue using the tussitots or take him to the paed, he has had no fever.

Your son's cough is normal after his recent probable viral chest infection. He probably had an illness called bronchilolitis. He needs to cough the mucous up and out of his chest, so you do not want to supress his cough too much. I do not recommend that you give him Tussitots as it contains codeine which may cause dependency and also constipation.It would also not be a good idea to continue to give him Linctopent. This contains an old- fashioned bronchodilator called orciprenaline which causes children to become over-active.Your son's cough should settle down soon.Give him a good immune booster such as Scotts emulsion during the winter if he is going back to a creche.
