Hi Professor,

My 1y 10mnth old son is coughing from the after effects of a cold which started on 24/04. It is a wet, rattling cough. I can see the phlegm at the back of his throat. I started him on Mucospect but did not feel this was doing the trick and stopped after 3 days. I have started him on Prospan 2.5ml 3 times a day and today is the 6th day. I am also using Iliadin nasal spray and Saline in the nebulizer and giving him half an ACC tablet daily.

Is there anything else I can give him?

Thank you.

Iliadin nasal spray should not be used for more than 5 days at a time in children. Mucospect and ACC contain the same medicine.Prospan syrup is a good treatment for children with this kind of post-viral infection cough.Your son probably had an illness called bronchiolitis associated with his recent cold. This often takes as long as 3 weeks to clear up.Use a saline nasal spray to clear up his blocked nose. As long as your son is eating and sleeping normally there is no need for concern.
