Good day Doctor,

My son is now 14 months old, i read a few articals about honey that can sooth a cough. His got a unpleasent dry cough and its keeping him awake at night. i do give him cough medication but it doesnt seem to help much.

Please advise if i can give honey to my son....?

Try and find honey from the same area that you live in. It contains the pollen which might be responsibile for his cough, and will thus work better than generic honey.

Hi Sam,

I give my children Respitron Syrup, which has honey it and it seems to help with fighting off infections and coughs.

The paediatrician confirmed that honey can be given from 12 months. I gave this to my little one at 14 months as no cough medicine worked! She used to wake during the night from coughing, after the honey she slept through again! I only gave 1 teaspoon honey before bed time.
