Continuous congested chest and coughing

Dear Doctor
I have a 17 month old baby boy. He has been having a congested chest since he was five months old. He was admitted in hospital in Jan 2012 and Feb 2012 because of groep In May 2012 I took him to an ENT Specialist and his Adenoids were removed as they were enlarged.
Well the congested chest never cleared until I took him to a Pulmonologist in Sunninghill Hospital. MRI scan was done and he was diagnosed with Lung infection. Bronchoscopy was done and one of his lungs colapsed then he ended up being in Cardio Thoracic ICU for 7 days.
He was realeased from hospital after 12 days. He was re-admitted again within 7 days of being discharged. This time he had swollen feet and swollen hands as well as the cough.
His cough does not go away. He has been gtested for TB, Asthma, HIV and all these came out negative.
I am worried sick as this cough does not go away, my son is always on cough medication. Please advise what I need to do. Your help will be much appreciate.
Worroed mom!

You have certainly tried your best to find the cause of your little son's chronic cough and have taken him to several specialists already without success. It is very important to make a diagnosis of the cause of his chest problem. Until the correct diagnosis is made the correct treatment cannot be given. I know that you have seen a paediatric pulmonologist already but I really want you to see Dr Andre van Niekerk at the Clinton Clinic in Alberton (Tel 011 8691775). He is an excellent paediatric pulmonologist and I am confident that he will help your son.
