constipation -- really worried

Hi doc
I have a 5 month old little girl, i exclusively breast fed until she was 4 months and then put her on Nan 1 (I still breast feed at night) she is constipated, she pulls her face and presses and all that is left in her nappy is one small bowl
I am really worried - what can I give her ?

Try a paediatric glycerine suppository first. You can ask your pharmacist for this. Make sure she is drinking enough fluid every day and she can start on a rice or maize cereal and purity fruits. If she does not improve please consult your doctor or nurse.

I struggled with my little girl for Months. I was unable to breastfeed her for too long as my milk supply dried up. I put her onto soya milk. (my biggest mistake!) Infasoya. I had to add a teaspoon of olive oil to each bottle she had to avoid constipation (I don't believe that it was bad for her, it was just painful to keep supplementing her feeds. In fact it was probebly good for her because soya formula does not have any omega's in them. Olive oil does have some omega's.)

I made a decision to put her onto goats milk (ALPI.) This has really been good for her, especially since she is mildly lactose intolerant. She no longer suffers from constipation problems.
I know that Alpi is very expensive, but they say that it is the closest formula to breastmilk.
Also ensure that you give her extra fluid during the day. (lots of water)
Hope that this helps.
