Constipation in 2 and half year old

My daughter has been constipated for three weeks. After a week of not having a movement I took her to the paed who prescribed Pegicol for faecal impactions, the same evening we rushed her to hospital where they did an enema. It worked a bit. Still used the pegicol and no movement for 5 days. Used Gyclerin Supp but nothing. On the 5 day used Milk of Magenesia and something come out which eased her pain a little. Her stomach only works if I use the suppository now of Milk of Magensia.

Increased her water and fibre. She was on Nan 3 till a month again when I changed to Full cream milk, changed in the last week to Soy Milk.

Question is how long should I wait with the Pegicol for normal movements. What Milk should she be on?

This severe constipation is not due to milk. It sounds as if your daughter has really very severe constipation with faecal impaction [the stools cannot be passed normally]She has not responded to Pegicol which is normally very effective as a treatment for constipation in children. She needs to be re-examined by her paediatrician.

You can also try Cooked water with olive oil/honey. If nothing helps you can try Duphalac Syrup for kids. It' s the only thing that worked for my daughter, she was the same when I starter her on fresh milk. Good Luck.

My daughter was also constipated. With everything she drinks, ie milk, water, etc. give 2 or 3 teaspoons of brown sugar. And give her some prune purity and juice to drink. The paed gave me Lacson syrup for her - it helps to " soften"  everything and it worked great together with the brown sugar and prunes.

Something that you can do at home is to give her a spoonful of cooking oil. How old is she? She needs to drink a bit more water which will also help. Maybe try baby massaging after her bath - rub her tummy in a clockwise direction for a while - apparently it also stimulates the tummy then. all the best to you!
