Hi Doctor,

My 2 year old child has regular constipation. I tried several remedies but the problem persists. Even doctors cannot tell what the problem is and how can it be sorted.

Should I get worried? Could this mean that he needs some kind of surgery?

This is very common and your child will not need surgery.First you must sort out his diet. He must not drink too much milk, just 2 cups aday.He must eat lots of fruit and vegetables and have lots of fibre rich foods [eg weetbix, whole wheat bread] in his diet. He can drink diluted fruit juice once daily and he can have rooibos tea. He must not eat any hard cheese.Give him Duphalac liquid 5ml twice daily for 14 days.

To Faith, have you tried giving your child InfaCare baby formula?
we had the same problem with our son and we changed his formula to infacare and we never had another day of constipation. Good luck

I''ve sorted out all diet issues and still had a problem. Doc prescribed Pegicol which my 13 month old takes daily. Works wonderfully.
