Chronic illness

My two year old daughter has been in hospital at least 13 times. She keeps on getting broncholitis or pnemonia. The paed says she will grow out of it. We have had the worst now she has been sick for 10 weeks with about 4 days of being okay. She was hospitilised within this time and has been on 5 courses of antibiotices and prelone. Now she just keeps getting a runny nose and if I stop giving her allergex it starts going to her chest again. I am giving her allergex 3 times a day. I am tired of a sick child that just does not seem to be getting better. Any suggestions.

You certainly have a real problem with your little daughter. She seems to either have a problem with her resistence to infections or some recurrent chest problem such as asthma or cystic fibrosis. What is needed here is a clear diagnosis.Your daughter must see a paediatric respiratory disease expert [paediatric pulmonologis]. There are experts in all the main centres in SA.

I have had similar problems with my son from Bronchiliits to pneumonia and reccuring infections, my paed specializes in allergies and ashthma at garden city clinic he recommended grommets for my son as the ear infections also have an impact of the fluid going to the hcest. After the grommets he was fine. everytime he was coming down with an infection i could see the fluid drining out of his ear. i have not been to the Paed in the last 6 months (touch wood) since the grommets
