Child''s weight

Hi Doc, please can you advise. My son is in GR 1, aged 6. He''s just started GR 1 this year and not sure what to do about his eating. The 1st week at school, he came home with ALL his lunch and juice untouched. I think he was a little overwhelmed about school and lunch etc &  I approached the teachers to get him to eat it all. He''s such a skinny little man and only weighs 20 kg and doesn''t seem to have much of an appetite lately. Is there anything / supplement I can give him to improve the appetite and maybe get him to start growing a little again. He really hasn''t grown much lately - in fact I think he''s stayed the same height / weight for a year now.
Otherwise, he''s a happy energetic little boy who is excelling in his class already and loving school.

Thanks for the advice.

The average weight for a boy of 6 years is just under 20.8kg, so in fact your son's weight is very close to the average weight. There does not appear to be any need for concern about his weight. It may be that he is taller than average for his age and has the appearance of being thin.Sometimes children are so busy and enjoy school and the breaks so much that they forget to eat. You mention that he is doing well and enjoying being at school. He will eat what he needs to eat to cover his daily nutritional requirements.
