Our current immunisations do not cover chicken pox. Chicken pox is very infectious, but it usually a relatively mild disease in older children or in smaller babies if their mother had chickenpox before. If a child becomes infected the first signs of fever and lethargy appear before the rash, usually about two weeks after exposure.
