Dear Doc,

My son was three weeks ago on augmentin es600 for phelgmy chest and celestamine for his runny nose, he had fever then, now three weeks later he is still coughing phelgm but nofever just runny nose. what can i do because i don''t want him on anitbiotics again. i have been also giving him bissolvin and neb him with duolin and pulmicort. but it doesnot seem to be helping?

You do not mention your son's age but he seems to have had a bad cold at first which then affected his chest causing an illness called bronchiolitis. This illness usually takes at least 3 weeks to clear up completely.As it is caused by a virus infection antibiotics do not help. Keep your son's nose clear by using Sterimar nasal spray twice a day and continue giving him the Bisolvon and nebulising with Duolin twice a day. You do not need to use the Pulmicort.
