Dear Doc

My son (4 yrs) has been diagnosed by homeopath with Candida infection. After 6 months of various doctor visits he got a name for this condition. How can one avoid this and what should I exclude from this diet? He is allergied to dust, dust mites. Has eczema, tiredness, red eyes, loosing weight, poor immune system. Is on singulair and Allecet currently with anti fungal drops & Bio Femme [by homeopath} Thanks.

There is no such thing as 'candida infection'. We are all exposed to candida on a daily basis and our bodies develop antibodies from early infancy to fight candida infection. Young babies can get thrush in their mouths, but it does not spread throughout the body. Older children and adults especially females can get oral and vaginal thrush after antibiotic therapy or when using bubble baths which change the acidity of the skin and mucus membranes. Your son is a highly allergic little boy with asthma, eczema and I am sure allergic rhinitis as well. Many of these children have extremely disturbed nights and end up sleep deprived. This is an extremely common problem these days.It is important to make his bedding and bedroom as mite and dust free as possible-special pillow and mattress covers are needed. He must be seen by a paediatrician with an interest in allergic conditions in children. There are specialists in all the main centres in South Africa. Let me know where you live and I will recommend the right person to see your son.

Thank you for your reply. We had him at his paeditrician, Dr Kevin Jones at Bedfordview, Dr Gravett- allergy specialist at Clinton clinic, his local GP, Dermatologist - Dr Klavansky at Clinton clinic and all says something different. They treat him for allergy, viral infection, allergies and each week he is on antiobiotics almost and does not get any better. We had him also checked for leukemia as he gets often nose bleeds. Please doctor we need the right diagnosis. Is there any doctor higher than a paedictrician we can take him to to maybe a specialist in children? We are really getting worried for him not to get better. Various blood tests was done on him as well but all seem fine. We had just lost our baby girl 6 month old to Charge syndrome and posterior laryngeal cleft. WE ARE DEFINATELY NOT GOING THROUGH THE SAME !!! We as parents are very protective over our children. We are on medical aid and they will only get the best medical attention needed.
I will appreciate your reply...
