If there was a single affordable test that detected all cancer we would gladly use it. The problem is that cancer (luckily) remains very rare and that the specific screening test used will apply only to the type of cancer that is suspected. Cancer may also develop in a child that was previously completely normal. There are certain danger signs that no doctor should ignore, but it is not feasible (or even possible) to test all children for cancer and give their parents the assurance that they do not have (or will never develop) cancer.
