Can a toddler get measels twice?

Hi Doc,

My daugther has already has meseals or german measles (at the time she had it we took her to a pead who said it could be either or!) Now she has had her vacs for this but now since sunday she has not been sleeping well of eating well and had a slight temp which i put down to teething. Then the night before last she had a few spots on her back which i put down to heat rash cos she was running around outside and had a jersey on. Then yesterday i fetched her from creche and the owner and i got talking and she told me she sent a little girl home with measels which led me to look at my daughters back to see they were covered in spots and in her bath discovered that her whole body was covered in spots. they were not dark red spots but definatley visable. So my question is can she can get measles again after having it once and had the vac against it?

i apologise for the long post!

Thanks doc.

It is highly unlikely that a child will get measles twice. I suspect that your little girl's first illness was really Roseola [often called baby measles] and not the typical measles. Now she does appear to have a very mild form of measles which can occur even in children who have been immunized against measles. She should not attend daycare until her rash has cleared.

Also she has not had a temp the whole day today (as i didnt give her pando this morning and have been checking in with her creche often) And the spots seems to have faded considerably. Could this still possibly be measles? As i plan to visit my sister this weekend who has a toddler.
