Dr, I would like to find out if kids do outgrow bronchopneumonia. I have a 4 year old who was admitted in 2010 for four days , having bronchopneumonia. This year again he was admitted in hospital for the same thing.

My DR, told me that they outgrow it when they are 5. It really bothers me and he is most of the time coughing. What madication can I give him to treat the cough. Please help.

I am concerned about your son with him having has bronchopneumonia twice. He should have been well past the stage and age at which most children are inclined to get viral pneumonia by now. Also you mention that he coughs all the time. Your son must definitely be seen by a paediatric pulmonologist as soon as possible. Illnesses such as cystic fibrosis and asthma, among others, need to be carefully ruled out by this specialist. If you have any difficulty in finding a paediatric pulmonologist in your area please let me know.
