Q.

Body Temp Regulation - 4 year old

Hello Doc

My 4 year old girl seems to struggle with the regulation of her body temperature. She has been sensitive to warm water since birth, and I had to make sure that the water was almost cold before I could put her in the water.

From about last year when she turned 3, I noticed that she is struggling with her body temperature. In winter she will wear summer clothes complaining that she is hot, even if it is freexing out side. Now when it is summer she is wearing tract suits complaining that she is cold. She does not have a fever or anything, but I can feel she is sweating underneath the tract suit, but still she cries that she is cold. It is sldo not that she's got a favourite outfit, because she will grab whatever tract suit is available when it is 31 degrees outside.

Is there something wrong with her, do you suggest I take her to the doctor?

Thanks doc

I am not sure what to make of this. With temperature dysregulation, children usually tolerate either heat or cold badly, but not in the way that you describe. The most important thing is that she is healthy and active. The main concerns would be to ensure that she is not ill and that her thyroid function is normal.
