BLUE MARKS ON BABY

Hi Doc My 2year old was born with a blue bottom (Bums). Her doc told me that some big babies bruise when they go through the birth canal. Now my 8week old has the same but on her back, shoulders, hands &feet. Is this.some sort of illness or what.My 8weekold weighed 3.5 kilos &53cm tall.she feeds well, does not cry if we pick her up sleeps well.It does not worry me cause I believed the doc,but if I tell people they look at me with disbelief.Could this story be true.Other people say they think I ate to much cold stuff when I was pregnant. Please reply.

These marks are not bruises, but a blue discolouration called Mongolian spots. It is common in babies and transient. It is not a disease and no treatment is indicated.

I dont know if its true but I heard that 'blue bums" are quite common in babies who have dark complexions.
