Blue lips after sleep, restless sleeper

Dear Dr

My son (21 months) was diagnosed with the RS-virus about a month ago. Using Singulair now.
Since then, he has a constant cough with lots of phlem, especially after sleeping. Coughs during the day as well, but not too much. Last week, I noticed that his lips were tainted blue/purple when he woke up in the morning. The colour returned to normal a short while later. I first thought that it might be from cold (it was really cold last week), but it happened on another 2 occasions. He is in daycare and the daycare-mom also said that she noticed his lips being blue after sleeping... Should we be worried?

He is also a very restless sleeper. Wakes up at least once a night, cries terribly and puts up a terrible fight to go back to bed again. Any suggestions? I don' t want to be a cruel mom and simply let him cry it out, if there might be a medical reason for him not sleeping well. But if it' s just a phase, I' d do anything to get through it as soon as possible!

Thank you!

I am concerned about your son having blue lips when he wakes up now that he has this chest infection. The blue colour may be due to low oxygen levels in his blood. It is probably not due to the cold even though it is very cold now. He also seems to have a very blocked nose which is why he cannot sleep peacefully. Please ask yor paediatrician to see your son.
