Q.

Black stools

Yesterday I noted that my 3yr old son''s stools are black. This morning the school called me to say that his stools were pitch black and very runny. What does this indicate?

He''s had an on and off cold for 4wks but hasn''t seen a doc yet as it is just your normal cold / sinus thing.

He also had beetroot at school for lunch yesterday and does not take any iron supplements.

It is almost certainly the beetroot which caused your son's stools to be dark and a bit runny.
