Q.

Birth difects

I had a twin pregnancy and deleverd at 30 weeks where one of the twins were perfect and the other had the following:
1) Spina Bifida (worst case - His legs was missformed)
2) His stomick didn't close and all of his intestines were outside of his body in a membrain. (It wose like a big bubble were i could see all of his organs)
3) He had 1 vain in his ubllical cord. ( He was almost half the size of his twin)
4) His male organs didn't form proparly.
5) He had catteracs in the eyes.
He only lived for about 40 minnuts. We have done cromesome test and genetic tests and everything came back negative.
Is there as a birth difect that is a combination of the above defects? If there is wat is it called?
My other question is will my remaining child miss her twin or have any side effects because of her being alone?

These are very difficult questions and I understand that you are confused and sad. The fact that your one baby was normal is wonderful. We do not always know why babies are misformed and in a twin pregancy there is so much more that can go wrong. I doubt if your baby will miss the twin, but it is impossible to say that with certainty. In my experience the surviving child usually does very well and no problems would be expected.

Hi confussed.

I like you also like to know the details and reason behind things happening, but there isn't always one.

I lost a baby girl at 25 weeks due to unexplained pre-term labour. Alhtough no actaul tests were done after the fact, there was seemingly nothing wrong with either her nor I, I just suddenly went into full labour, for no apparent reason.

I read everything I could find and spoke to my doctor at length.
Apparently up to 30% of pre-term labour cases are unexplained.

I was obviously concerned about it happening again, but I went on to have 2 very big and healthy sons, both of whom ironically went overdue and I had to be induced.

So while I do encourage you to find out what you can.
And do mourn your son's loss, and remeber him.

I also encourage you not to dwell on it too much, or let it bring fear into you, because chances are good that it WON'T happen again, and that it's just one of those unexplainable things.

I can also recommend that you bond with your daughter as much as you can now, and poor all your love for both of them into her. He would have wanted that.

All the best. Don't be afraid to cry and to let yourself heal.
