Q.

bilingual child

hi doc, my 15 month old son still does not talk at all, or say mama or dada -we are a bilingual home and my husband speaks afrikaans to him, I speak english and the nanny speaks xhosa -could this be the reason for delay. Also, he doesn't point yet, but does show with his hand. he seems quite normal, walked at 12 months, can build rows with duplo blocks, his fine motor control is good, so I don't think he's behind, is this just a lag in development in certain areas?

He is fine and developing well. You are expecting too much for him to be talking at this stage. He can probably say 'Mama and Dada' now. Hearing 3 languages is definitely confusing for him but he will probably surpise you by suddenly starting to use words from all these languages.Give him a lot more time.
