bedwetting at 5?

HI Doc hope ur well.

My girl was potty trained before age 2 and has never wet the bed. However she has done so twice in the past month, and she is 5 and a half now. Whats going on? We haven't moved home, she is at the same school. However I have been depressed bcoz of my 6 mth unemployment, can this stress be carrying over to her? I just wonder how to help her. Am trying to limit bedtime fluid intake but at the same time I don't want to make her too aware there is a 'problem'.

We co -sleep as we're just the two of us at home. Maybe is she outgrowing this and needs her own bed? Perhaps the reality of just living with her mother is beginning to cause her distress? Father's Day is often hard for her.

thanks pls advise as best u can.

It seems that your daughter is not wetting her bed regularly, but has only done so twice in the past month. With such intermittent bed wetting regular medication is usually not necessary. She may be having some rather stressful things happening such as Fathers day as you say, but cerrtainly living with you is not likely to be causing any distress. She will be affected by your unemployment problem and the tensions that accompany this, you will need to be as positive as it is possible to be under the circumstances. Having her own bed is a good idea as this will make her feel more grown up.Try a star-chart with her, giving her one star stuck on a special chart when she has a dry night. When she goes 5 nights without wetting her bed she gets a small reward. Keep this up for at least 3 months to break the cycle of bedwetting.
