Q.

Baby won't eat...

Dear Doc

My baby girl will be 8 months next week ,and I would like some advise please?

Her routine is as follows:

07:00: 175ml milk (Infacare Soya milk (stage 2))
09:00: Porrige for breakfast
12:00: 175ml milk
14:00: Lunch (purity fruit or veg)
17:00: Bottle 175ml
18:30: Supper (purity veg)
20:00: 150ml milk

She'll wake up at 02:30am and drink another full bottle of 175ml.

The problem I am experiancing is that she refuses to eat anything other than purity fruit, or Sweet potato, carrots, butternut, sweet potato & corn. I've tried every other flavour and she wants to make herself sick (anything with texture).

How do I get her to eat other flavours and get her used to texture???

This is an extremely common problem . Many babies don't like to eat coarse foods at this age. She seems to be doing well at this stage and you must simply carry on the way you are. Don't rush things and only try and introduce new solids if she seems ready and make sure that the food is always mashed very fine.

Hi Cherry

Don' t worry. You are not alone. My first born (now 3 1/2 years old) still won't eat A lot of the food I give to him. He has been a fussy eater since he was a baby. He lives on mielies, viennas, fish fingers, appels and meat. That's it. He won't eat anything else.

I promise you, if the child is fussy, there is not much one can do. He is developing normally, so I'm happy. I just ensure that he gets his multivitamins so that he gets all the nutrition that he needs.

His brother on the other hand (9 months old) is not a fussy eater at all. He will eat anything in site.

What I'm trying to say is, don't worry about the other food that she does not like. She eats pretty well compared to my first born at that age.

Have you tried mixing her favourite food with something else? ie mix sweet potato with beef and veg purity (more sweet potato) and try this. Maybe she'll eventually get used to the other food?
