Q.

Baby Overweight??

Hi Doc

My baby girl is 17 months old and weighs 13kg. I know this is high, but she is 85.5cm tall, which is a lot taller than the average height for her age. She eats oats for breakfast, fruit and yoghurt for lunch and chicken, mince and vegetables for dinner. She drinks about 450ml of milk a day, otherwise only water. She doesn't get chips, or biscuits during the week, maybe once on the weekend! Is this ok, or should i be doing something differently?

Thanks
Sue

Your child's weight and height are both well above the average but are in balance. In other words she is a very big child for her age and falls in the top percentiles for weight and height and is perfectly normal.

My son is 14 months and also weighs 13kg. I had him at the pediatrician a month ago and all seems well. His weight, which the paeditrician didn't think was abnormally heavy, was put down to his heavy bone structure. By all means wait for the professional opinion but I just thought i'd mention this to you.
