Baby cramps

Dear Doctor
Please can you advise.

My baby is almost 8 months and weighs over 9 kg and looks very healthy. I am having problems with her not sleeping at all. She is still completely breast fed and I have started supplementing with a little amount of cereal and veggies.

She falls asleep on the breast and when I put her down in her cot she sleeps only for a few minutes then wakes up crying and i cant get her to sleep again.
It seems as though her cramps and passing wind awaken her.

Once she is awake I cannot get her to go to sleep again unless I breast feed her again. I also find if I leave her in the bed between my husband and I she will then sleep for about two hours then awake for another feed.

How do I know if she is getting enough milk or if she is overfeeding?

Should I be concerned about the cramps and strong winds she passes. Sometimes she only passes a small stool in the day. Other days it may be more.

Thanks so much

Even though you are breast feeding it seems that your baby has a problem with lactose intolerance. This can occur with breastmilk.Or she may be reacting to foods that you are eating in your diet with tiny fractions of these foods passing into your breastmilk. It may be worthwhile trying her on a lactose free formula and not giving her any other dairy products to eat for a few days to see if she improves.Let me know if she does not improve.
