Baby constipated

HI Doc,
As mentioned previously, baby is enjoying Isomil, but the constipation is now becoming a problem. He tends to have cramps and hard poos. I''ve given him lacson once more, but that doesn''t seem to work. I''ve given him a bit of sugar water, which helps a lot, but I can''t give this to him frequently.
Yesterday I decided to try Nan LF ( I couldn''t find S26 LF) to see if he will be more comfortable, but he doesn''t seem to want it much. And after at least 2 feeds his tummy had the rumble similar to when he was on the normal S26. I gave him Isomil this morning, as he refused the Nan completely, and he drank this more willingly.
Should I try to continue with the Nan LF? Or is there anything I can do to ease the constipation while on Isomil?
I am getting worried about changing babies formula.
Should I consider putting him on rice cereal now, at 4.5 months, as the clinic nurse mentioned solids will help ease the constipation?
He is just over 8 kilos now.
I am feeling at my wits end when baby is not happy, as he is generally full of smiles.
Should I take him to the paed for an examination?
Many thanks once again doc.

Your baby son's weight is well above the average for baby boys of his age.So his weight gain is certainly not a problem. It is common for babies to struggle with constipation when on soya formulas. With the lactose free fomulas the lactose [ the natural milk sugar] has been removed so some babies are not too keen to drink these formulas. You can try starting your baby on a rice cereal [milk free] If his constipation does not improve it is a good idea to take your baby to the paediatrician.
