Q.

anxious son

I have an 8 year old son. We are a close, happy family and have 2 daughters, 6 and 4. Our son does very well at school and at sport. He has lots of friends and is a clever, gentle child. Recently he has shown signs of being overly worried about injury and death, both relating to himself and his family. His fears range from being concerned when we go out that we will have an accident to not riding his bicycle down a steep hill bcause his friend fell off down that specific hill. He also complains the his heartbeat is too fast and whether or not he is about to die. We cannot establish the cause of his anxiety and although we are concerned about overreacting, we do not want this anxiety to develop into something worse.

He has developed an anxiety neurosis and should be seen by a child psychologist.
