Q.

Almond milk for calcium

Dear Doc

Just to refresh, my 16 mo son has a dairy intolerance which causes vomiting and bloating. We tried Isomil, but it seems to cause nasal congestion and pnd. We''re trying Similac Alimentum, but don''t yet know whether its ok for him, although he does seem to do well on it. Its also really extremely expensive at R150/450g. Al the moment he is having rooibos tea at lunch and night time, with 2 scoops of Similac, which does not supply the necessary amoutn of calcium. I have read that almond milk is a good substitute which provides in the required amount of calcium. What is your opinion on that?

Rather just give your son a calcium supplement. Speak to your pharmacist.
