allergy or not

doc, my 2yr 4mnth old son suffers from allergy to pollen/grass as per allergy tests conducted. I''ve taken him numerous times to his paed for swollen eyes and congestion. she always just prescribes nasal and eye drops. on saturday i rushed him to hospital because his eyes were swollen shut when he woke up, they prescribed spersedex(not sure of spelling) and sent us home. his eyes swell atleast 4 times a week. last night i put the eye drop in his eyes because they were swelling again and the one eye immediately got swollen very bad. his eyes are watery all day every day and he rubs them all the time and then cries, he left eye is more problematic and is always red. I''ve been for a second opinion and was told its allergies. what other kind of doc can you suggest i go see? and are eye drops safe to give to him everyday for prolonged periods? i am very worried it might be more than allergies

Your little son is certainly very young to have such severe eye allergies. You already know that he is allergic to grass pollen and this is the spring season so this is why his eyes are so bad now. There is no doubt about the diagnosis. You cannot continue to use a cortisone containing eye drops in his eyes. This should only be prescribed by an expert for such a young child. Your son needs to be seen by an eye specialist, an ophthalmologist. Try to take him to a paediatric ophthalmologist if possible. It is essential that he is seen ASAP.

Nono I suggest you call your prefered hospital and ask them otherwise call Sandhurst Eye centre, I see they have Dr Peter van Lingen and Dr P Vercueil who have interest in Paediatric ophthalmology.
