Allergic to food preservative

My son was admitted to hospital a while ago after having a severe asthma attack at first we thought it was croup. He was diagnosed with Asthma, blood tests were done and he is allergic to Benzoade. My question is is Natrium benzoade and Sodium Benzoate the same thing? and what about certain medications that contain Natrium benzoate?

More and more children are becoming allergic to the preservative sodium benzoate. This is exactly the same as natrium benzoaat.Sodium benzoate is found in many cold drinks and as you correctly say, in many liquid forms of medicines used for children, even in antihistamine syrups. You must inform your doctor and pharmacist that your son may not have any medicine preserved with sodium benzoate. He will need to take medicines in capsule or tablet form. Some medicines come in a chewable tablet form these days.
