Allecet and snoring

Hi doc. The paed gave my 18mnth old ALLECET medicine as he is snoring at night. Is that suppose to help and for how long can it be used as it''s now been 3 weeks already. He is not snoring every night the same. there are nights that it is much milder than other nights or not at all. Will it still be necessary to have his adenoids removed, as I am a bit reluctant go that route. On the other hand I am also scared as I heard that children his age can stop breathing. To what extend must the snoring go before I know Ithe adenoids can be removed. I don''t know what to do.Please help!

Allecet is a safe antihistamine which is used to ereat allergic rhinitis in children. Your son seems to have improved but the fact that he is still snoring at all is of concern. Young children should not snore as this means that they have a very blocked nose. You are correct, what is of concern is that sometimes children with snoring can stop breathing for short periods. This is known as sleep apnea. It would be best for your son to be seen by an ENT specialist.
