ALCAT test

Hello Dr.My daughter aged 3 and a half , has had severe eczema since she was 8 mths.We have finally taken her for an allergy test.The test in particular been the ALCAT test.She has been tested positive to a number of foods such as almond,brocoli,carrot,cinnamon,honey,lentil bean,lettuce.cocoa,a few preservatives as well as paraffin oil.All the creams she has been using has some sort of paraffin oil such as the aqua base creams ,What can I use on her.I have been to the pharmaciies,and no one is able to help as all the creams contain this mineral oil.I am so desperate.My childs entire body is filled with this terrible rash.

I am sorry to have to inform you that the Allcat test is not regarded as being scientifically accurate. The Allergy Society of SA has issued a statement about this test. Your daughter should be seen and tested by a paediatric allergist. There are experts in all the main centres in SA. It us highly unlikely that your daughter is allergic to parrafin oil in any case.While you are waiting to see an allergist, try Physiogel AI cream. It is rather exppensive but is an excellent moisturiser for your daughter's eczema.
