Advice please-sores

Hi All, Last week my GP diagnosed my son with ear infection. He had a temperature and was vomiting. He prescribed an antibiotic, but my som is a nightmare when it comes to taking meds-he spits it out, or vomits it out. Anyway after 3 days(and taking in virtually none of the antibiotic) he just wasn't getting any better. He also stopped eating as he had ulcers in his mouth. So I took him to the Olivedale clinic. There the doc said that he now had the ear infection as well as a throat infection-shame, and the sores in his mouth and lips the doc said was a viral infection. All i got for the mouth was a local anaesthetic cream, which is sooo hard to apply. the antibiotic that she prescibed was very strong, so it's a once a day dose which he is taking. But what can I do about the sores? He cries all the time, and hates a dummy, any liquid or food. He's a little chap, can't afford for him to loose any more weight. Any suggestions about these sores?

This is a condition called herpes stomatitis which is a viral infection of his mouth. If he cannot drink he will become dehydrated. It is necessary to have him seen by a paediatrician or taken to the OPD section of your nearest hospital.

I did take him to the hospital, and the doctor said that it was herpes, but that there was no treatment for it-that i should simply use the local anaesthetic and it will heal on its own.

I have just heard that the kids at my babies daymom have been diagnosed with hand foot and mouth virus!! Didn't know humans get it, but apparently not the same as the animal disease. I have just looked it up on the internet and found some info on drgreenedotcom. It is sores on the mouth and also palms and soles and it says that it is often misdiagnosed as ear infection. Have a look at the website, maybe it will help.
