aczema and sores

Good day

Since my daughters birth she was diagnosed with eczema, this did not suprise me as i quickly remembered that I too as a child suffered from this condition. Its been managed very well with the right treatment. However, a month ago my daughter started developing little sore which then develeped into huge sore, this was below her buttocks and her legs. Having to have grown up with eczema this was rather unusual and it worried me  these sores had a sticky watery substance coming out and they just expanded.

The doctor, i took my daughter too said that was part of the eczema, till this day i dont believe it. Becasue, eczema is a chronic sickness i dont believe that it is contagious. This morning i noticed that some of the kids from my daughters pre-school have the same sores developing....

Can you please tell me if you know what we could be dealing with

Yes,your daughter has 'impetigo'. This is a bacterial infection in your daughter's eczema rash. Impetigo is caused by either 'strep' or 'staph' bacteria and an antibiotic is needed to cure this infection. It is very contagious and can spread to other children at school even if they do not have eczema. Your daughter must be treated with an antibiotic called Erythromycin for 5 days as well as having Bactroban ointment applied to the sores until they are healed. It would be a good idea for her not to go to school until her sores start to heal as she is very infectious to other children now.
