Q.

Vegetarian 3 year old

Please can you advise... My granddaughter turned 3 in Oct. She's a vegetarian so are her parents. Lately she's been complaining about legs paining & is quite restless at night. What can we do to help her because she only drinks soya milk but very little & is still breastfed at night? Thank you

I presume that your granddaughter's legs appear normal and there is no swelling of the any of the joints of her legs.It is very common for children of this age to have pains in their legs especially at night. This is usually due to 'growing pains' Panado syrup or Calpol Syrup given as a single dose when the pain occurs should help to treat this. Sometimes this problem of growing pains may come and go for several years, but usually stops at about the time that children start going to school. Her growing pains is not due to her being on a vegetarian diet.
