Switch feom Neocate to Hipp

Hi, so my little boy is nearly 5 months now. He has been on Neocate, Gaviscon and Ranitidine to control the reflux. Neocate I dont feel he needed so much as the reflux hadn't seemed to be caused by an allergy. The paediatrician on the ward advised us to wean him off it. That was 14 or so weeks ago. We havent done it sooner because along with the reflux we didnt want to cause him more issues like wind and tummy ache. Which he had with every other formula. Iv done 3x Neocate 2x Hipp since Friday. He has tummy ache and his poo is clay like. Is he just agjusting? I would keep him on Neocate but since its already broken down and he hardly has to digest it im worried we might have more issues when going onto solids. Hes also really acid sicky on Neocate, this has improved since Friday Ge whispered in his sleep all night laat night. What to do?

It is difficult to be sure about the cause of your baby's symptoms of tummy ache and possibly constipated stools. Judging by the timing this appears to have started when you introduced the Hipp formula. Hipp is simply an organic milk formula. The most likely cause is that your baby has some degree of lactose intolerance as he was fine on the Neocate which is an amino acid formula. Neocate is a safe formula for your baby and you do not need to concerned to continue on this formula for a while. Many babies have a temporary lactose intolerance. It may help to stop the Gaviscon which may be causing your baby to have the grey stools He can stay on the Ranitidine to reduce his stomach acid although this medicine has a relatively short period of activity.
