This is a very important question. Your son had a cold to start with and may have also had a chest infection. His illness was almost certainly caused by a virus infection, probably by a virus called RS virus. This illness usually lasts for about 3 weeks and then clears up by itself. Amoxil is an antibiotic and will not cure a virus infection. It will also kill the 'good bacteria' in his digestive system, that are important for his immune protection. Prednisone is a cortisone and is not usually given to a child with a cold. Use Salex Paediatric Saline Nasal Spray at least twice daily to help to clear his blocked and runny nose. Also give him a children's probiotic for 10 days to help to restore the 'good bacteria'.
