This is a very common problem in children of this age. It is even more common in children who attend a creche, where they are exposed to many different virus infections especially during autumn and winter. This is almost certainly a repeated virus infection problem with your son affecting both his upper and lower respiratory tracts. This is usually a pre-school problem and your son will grow out of it with time as his resistance improves. In the meantime put him on Scott's Emulsion daily for its high vitamin A and D content. Give him a children's probiotic daily to boost his immunity. Keep his nose clear by using Salex Paediatric Nasal spray twice daily every day.

Dear Paed, thanks for this advice my baby boy is 8months 1week, he goes to crèche and struggle with nasal congestion and a lot of phlegm that he doesn't cough out most of the time he swallows it. Its been a while he is been suffering with this, I see the advice you have given above, can I also give him Scott's Emulsion? and someone suggested I buy Allergex for him is that good for him at his age? I always have a nasal spray for him. Do kids his age have probiotic? Please help Doc...

Mom Vee I think it would be best if you can write a new post so doc can see it. What I know is that Allergex should not be given to kids under 2 years of age. Scott's Emulsion starts from 1 year. The safest vitamins that you can give to your 8 months old is Reuterina probiotics and Zinplex
