Hallo please can you help? My daughter Nadia is 15 years old and was diagnosed with Mitochondrial disease. When do we need to give her nutrition via a drip with the following ingredients. Coenzyme Q10, Creatine monohydrate, Riboflavin, Alpha-lipoic acid, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, L-carnitine and Thiamine. Please can you get back to me – we are desperate.

May I strongly recommend that you consult the website of the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation (Google: United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation) Here you will find a wealth of important information.  The kind of mitochondrial disease will decide what supplements and vitamins are required. However as a general rule Vitamins and Supplements should be given by mouth on a daily basis:  CoEnzyme Q10; 5 to 15 mg per kg body weight per day. Riboflavin; 100 to 400 mg per day.  Lipoic acid; 60 to 200mg 3 times a day.Vitamin E; 200 to 400 IU once daily. Vitamin C; 100 to 500mg once daily. L-Carnitine; start at dose of 30 mg per Kg per day. Thiamine (vitamin B1); 50 to 100 mg per day.  I am sorry to lump the doses together like this, but this is due to restricted space. Your daughter must be under the care of an experienced paediatric neurologist as she still falls into the paediatric age group.
