Q.

Loose baby stool

Hi doc, my newborn 2 Weeks old has really loose stool, Yellowish in color. He has quite the explosive type gas accompanied by loose watery stool. Can I use smecta? I am breastfeeding, can my diet be the cause? Looking forward to hearing from you soonest? Kindest Regards, Sue

This may be entirely normal as breast fed babies usually have yellow stools. Soft stools are also typical of a breast fed baby. However, you mention that your baby's stools are watery and he passes quite a lot of gas. It would be best to ask the sister at your nearest well baby clinic about your baby's stools. Take along a nappy as a sample.
