Q.

Flu meds for 3 year old

Good day Doctor please advise on a really good nasal decongestant syrup for my son for when he has flu. He has very bad sinus problems, constant nasal congestion with sinus but we are using Salex Sinus rinse for this as well as Allecet and Sterimar. It becomes a bit difficult to clear his sinus when he has a cold/flu which then develops into a cough. Which good medicines can I use for this? We have used Dimetapp to clear his nose but it doesn't help much. also can allecet and flu/cold meds be used together when he does have flu? Thanks for your response

This is a good question. The best way to keep your little son's nose clear is to use a saline nasal spray which you are already doing. Children of this age do not usually have sinuses that are fully developed yet so it would be unusual for your son to have sinus problems. he does not seem to respond well to the usual treatments for a persistently blocked nose in a child. This may be due to either enlarged adenoids or to nasal allergy (allergic rhinitis) He should be seen by a paediatrician or preferably a paediatric allergist so that the cause of his blocked nose can be properly diagnosed and treated.
